About Us

Angela Milián

My name is Angela Milián and I absolutely love to travel.  I graduated from Oklahoma State University (OSU) in 2013, but not without spending a semester abroad at the University of Limerick, Ireland.  I grew up in the Oklahoma City area, and lived in Kansas City, MO for 7 years after college.  My degree was in Civil Engineering, and my first career was as a Structural Engineer.  I worked on a wide variety of projects including but not limited to apartment buildings, grocery stores, restaurants, classroom buildings as well as a few houses – and even an expansion for Boulevard Brewery in Kansas City!

I have always loved to travel and to see and do new things.  These days I’ve taken my love of traveling to the next step.  I lead tours in and around Portland, OR! So if you’re interested in seeing what the Pacific Northwest (PNW) has to offer hit me up!

Believe it or not, biking was a hobby I acquired as an adult.  I sort of learned how to ride in college, but didn’t truly learn until I was 25. Now look at me go – even leading tours by bike!   I can’t wait to see what the future brings, and I look forward to sharing our adventures with you.

Andrew Milián

Andrew Milián is the brains behind our biking dreams.  One day he asked me if we could get a tandem, and how was I to say no?  Andrew is an electrical engineer working first out of a Kansas City office, then transferring to the Portland, OR at the beginning of 2021.  His focus is on electric vehicle infrastructure. Like me, he graduated from OSU in 2013. Andrew, also keen on traveling, spent his last semester abroad at the University of Hartfordshire, England. Andrew was born in Phoenix, Arizona and around the age of 9 moved to Denver, Colorado. After college Andrew and I lived in Kansas City together for 7 years until moving to Portland, OR.

Andrew has been a vegetarian since college, so naturally all of our cooked meals and restaurant options are made to suit his needs.

His interest in bike doodads and gadgets keeps us geared up for everything to come. In 2022 he even took on the challenge of building up his own bike!

Travelling Together

Andrew and I have always loved to travel.  We just enjoy the act of seeing and experiencing new things.  Andrew and I met in college (Oklahoma State) in 2011 right after I finished my semester abroad.  We were “only friends” for several months but one fateful day Andrew got into a really bad bike crash landing him in the hospital with staples in his head. While I won’t say the crash is what ended our “just friends” status, I can’t deny that it didn’t speed up the change.  Now here we are today, happily married since 2015.  I suppose our lives together have been revolving around bikes all along even though I had previously never consider myself a cyclist by any means.

We lived in Kansas City, MO for 7 years after college, and thanks to a nudge from the COVID-19 pandemic, decided to relocate to Portland, OR in January of 2021.  We’ve been making the most of our new home and loving every minute of it.  Our first adventure together (way back in 2011) was a road trip up the middle of the country from Stillwater, Oklahoma to Platteville, Wisconsin (home of House on the Rock, and at the time one of my good friends.)  If we could survive those 12 hours in a car together we could survive anything! It was a great trip, we stopped at several locations along the way (mostly road side attractions because what else would you do while driving through the Midwest?).  Since then we’ve had many other adventures.  We are always up for a new adventure and hopefully they will continue well past a million‘.  We hope you enjoy reading about our experiences as much as we enjoy having them!

How we got into long distance biking

Surprisingly enough, I did not learn how to ride a bike until I was an adult.  In college, a friend taught me enough that I could manage getting to class via empty sidewalks (but I had to avoid riding during high traffic times).  Coincidentally this is around when I met Andrew – I had been riding one of my parent’s bikes that had been sitting in a garage for 20 plus years and Andrew offered to fix it up for me (even if he first broke it in the process). A few years after graduating, I realized I should really get that whole bike riding thing sorted out, so like a totally sane person, I signed up for my first ever triathlon (sprint distance).  I was already a runner, and I mean I knew how to not drown, so how hard could it be? Well the biking part was great, the swimming not so much, so triathlons did not become a new passion sport of mine – and in case you are wondering they can get way expensive!

The next year Andrew developed knee problems that stopped him from running, but because he wanted to keep his “active” image, he got himself a bike and started riding.  Because I prefer doing activities not by myself, I  joined Andrew in this new biking lifestyle.  It didn’t take long for Andrew and I to fall in love with the sport, and to start dreaming of going farther and longer.  With his skill level so much ahead of mine it really made sense for us to get a tandem.  Turns out there are a lot of advantages to riding a tandem. And that’s how we became two crazy kids on a tandem – ready to ride!

After completing our 2 month bike tour down the Pacific Coast on our tandem, we’re looking into kitting up our single bikes for some adventures.  We’re excited to see how the rides compare, and in general simplifying some of the travel logistics. Don’t worry though, we still have our tandem, and plan to break it out every now and again for fun.

2018 - One of our first bike trips with the tandem on the Katy Trail, MO
2021 - Day 3 of our 2 month long Pacific Coast Tour in Port Townsend, WA
2022 - Kitted up on our solo bikes at Multnomah Falls, OR
